Kaichou wa Maid-sama!

10.00 (excellent) I really love this manga. Although it is typical shoujo, it has some spark to bring it to life.

Elfen Lied

10.00 (excellent) I LOVE Elfen Lied. Especially Lucy.
It's pretty mature if I recall correctly, so unless you can stand watching lots of....disturbing things, you should probably steer clear. Although, I would give it a high recommendation to people who are prepared... Because of its dark nature, the ecchiness does not really do anything but make it darker. I like the anime much more than the manga, which is something rather rare for me.

xxxHOLiC

Seen: completely

Last Updated: Nov 13, 2011

9.75 (excellent) I love xxxHOLIC (a lot more than TRC), though, because it doesn't have a direct storyline, some people get bored of the mini arcs.

Anyway, xxxHOLIC is comprised of many short stories with recurring characters. The story is linked to TRC and it doesn't have as much importance as Tsubasa. xxxHOLIC is more...philosophical I guess. It delves a lot into folklore and human nature (though to an extreme). It starts off with a very silly atmosphere, while also slightly foreboding as Yuuko is a powerful witch and KNOWS things. As the story progresses, you get to understand the characters more (Yuuko in particular). Of course, since it is linked to Tsubasa, it would be best to read them both to have a better understanding of what the hell is going on. It's quite confusing, but more so on Tsubasa's side.
Near the end, things start to get more depressing (also caused by the events occurring in Tsubasa), and you start hoping that somehow, things will improve....but they don't actually. The ending is left rather ambiguously and the audience is free to draw their own conclusion.

Overall, xxxHOLIC is quite interesting to read and really makes you think. There's not much action and a lot of explaining so if you're looking for some explosions or something, it's not going to happen a lot in this manga/anime.

Since it is comprised of small arcs, the story brings you something a little different each time. I recommend it reading it (as well as watching). :)

Vampire Hunter D

Last Updated: Sep 11, 2010

9.75 (excellent) "Transient guests are we"

The slow revelation of D's past (in the novels) make me so excited. The mysteries that envelope D at every turn keep the audience in suspense and keeps them reading until they finish it. I think my favourite would be the Pilgrimage of the Sacred and the Profane....lovely.....and I also love it when Hideyuki Kikuchi ends the novel with the survivors telling about D's rare smile....

Kuroshitsuji

Seen: partially

Last Updated: May 23, 2011

9.50 (excellent) I love Kuroshitsuji, but the anime ruined it for me. It would otherwise would have been a 10.
The anime isn't actually that bad, although, the animation is pretty awful, and there's too many fangirls to please. The anime seems all about profit off of fans. I would not recommend the anime. Read the manga. Here's my review (for the manga):
It's quite dark, and unexpectedly so. Why? Because the silly first chapters. But as the story progresses, the adventures of Ciel and Sebastian take on a darker theme. It is not simply about revenge and corruption. It's also about the fallacies of mankind, their hope in the face of desperation, and the will to sacrifice everything for one goal. It's tragic because Ciel is young, younger than most of us who read the manga. Yet he has suffered more than we could ever believe. Is he a strong character? Perhaps not. But as a human being, he perseveres to achieve his one goal of revenge. Will he be able to fulfill it? We have yet to know.
Also, the character of Sebastian is incredibly demon-like. He is cruel, sadistic, and yet loyal (but only to his aesthetics). He is skilled at everything yet he can only do it alone. He is not human and therefore cannot interact with them. He may be the image of perfection but he is not. As we read the story, Sebastian and the rest of the characters seem more and more separated. This disparity, though I do not know if it is intended or not, isolates Sebastian and marks him as a devil. Yet, he can blend in to the society as if he were a human. This is frightening as it shows that evil exists among good, but it is so well hidden that we could never recognize it, even if it should be obvious.
The relationship between Sebastian and Ciel seems to be one of absolute trust. They are so intricately intertwined that it is a bit scary to think how much Ciel has associated with evil. Yet, he does it because he is willing to sacrifice his soul for revenge. Ciel and Sebastian are alike in a way, but Yana Toboso also manages to keep them separated. Ciel succumbs to evil and is more susceptible to it, even without Sebastian's help. His fate lies with the devil, and is forever connected to the dark. Human nature is more demonic than a demon.

9.50 (excellent) oh Ed.....you're so cool

FMA is about a boy who seeks to find redemption in the form of the Philosopher's Stone. And no, not the one from Harry Potter. His journey tests his intelligence, his loyalty and his determination at achieving his goals. Ed's sense of protection for his loved ones and his own strengths continually grow as he travels across the country seeking for the answers he desires.

Kimi ni Todoke

Seen: partially

Last Updated: May 23, 2011

9.50 (excellent) It's sweet. But not that overwhelming kind. It's about an innocent, shy girl who tries to portray her feelings properly to others, but because of her resemblance to the Sadako (from The Ring) she is isolated. There is, however, a young refreshing boy who tries to befriend her and who she, in turns, respects greatly. In this slice of life story, she creates new friendships, a new love, and a sense of belonging in her class. It's a lovely story.

9.50 (excellent) EXCALIBUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*ahem
The storyline, the animation, the characters were intricately woven into what is known as the masterpiece Fate/Stay Night... ok, for me, the ending did a lot of the work. After watching it, I was so curious of the legends of King Arthur...*sigh

9.50 (excellent) Allen Walker, the 14th, Millenium Earl, Cross Marian..........whenever the story was directed at them, I fell in love.
At first, Hoshino Katsura seemed to add in moments of unnecessary humour, but as the story progresses, it improves a lot. I could reread all 200+ chapters over and over again because the story flows that well. It's one of those stories that keep on adding more mysteries while teasing its audience with vague answers. One of my favourites.

Nabari no Ou wasn't just above our shallow definition of love! It was about the bonds that tie people together and the need for someone to understand!!!

Millennium Actress

Last Updated: May 23, 2011

9.50 (excellent) This movie is pretty darn confusing. So unless you're really good at ELA, you'll only understand the overall storyline.
Personally, I still don't understand it. But I have a feeling that it's a really good movie (haha). The gist of it, I believe, is that the pursuit of happiness is the purpose for existence. The main character chases for this one man to return his key to "the most important thing". What this thing is, is never revealed. She searches for this man, believing that she loves him, and to an extent, perhaps she does. Her search gains her a position in several movies and she becomes a renowned actress. However, she continues searching for this one man who she, for some reason, needs to return the key to. In a tragic twist of events, mysteries are solved and we learn that she may have loved chasing him, rather than the man himself. Is the purpose of life, then, to search for happiness, but to never attain it? Because by attaining it, we lose the happiness? Who knows. The movie is incredibly deep, and will require more insightful reflections on repeated viewings to understand a vague generalization of the movie's intent.

9.25 (very good) Pretty addicting....and sweet. The main character's pretty cool and there's some pretty funny stuff that happens. I think that, although it is a typical shoujo manga, it has something special to it that makes it more enjoyable than others. Their love does not start off immediately, nor is it initially definite that they will be together. She begins seeking help with love. But not his love. Her first love is not him, but a friend. As they spend more and more time together, they become closer and their bonds become stronger. I think I'm going to reread this.
